Come celebrate the VJC Big Band's 10th anniversary with a swinging night of dancing. We'll be pulling out all the stops! We've invited Houston Person, a true Jazz Icon to join us as a guest soloist.
Person's big, bluesy sound has been getting people out of their chairs for over 40 years. He's recorded over 75 albums as a leader, mostly playing bluesy jazz standards and funky soul jazz. He has recorded with Charles Brown, Bill Charlap, Charles Earland, Lena Horne, Lou Rawls, Horace Silver and Richard "Groove" Holmes, just to name a few. His most noted association is with the great vocalist, Etta Jones.
Be sure to bring wear your dancing shoes, when asked if he likes to play dances, Person replied "I love to watch people respond to the music, the best appreciation the audience can give us, is to dance." Without a doubt, Person will be the most soulful saxophone player you have ever heard!
